Welcome to my travel journal |
I don't remember my first flight. I was just a baby when my parents took me on my first adventure. "Coast to coast in your first year of life," they used to tell me. From California to Florida, they took me to visit family. Memories I can only hold in a picture now. Little did they realize what they'd started. The travel bug had bitten me, and it was only a matter of time before I went from in arms to in lap to in the seat! I remember the window seat being my favorite spot as a little girl. Staring out the window at the fluffy clouds or taking in the vast blue of the ocean below always filled me with such wonder. Some people fear the unknown and others wonder at it. Those who wonder rarely stay in the same place for long. Others describe the desire to travel as an itch that just needs to be scratched. Wonder, itch, wanderlust, stir-crazy? It's all inherent in the travel bug. It's like a second skin that can't be shed. I think more often than not, most people can't pinpoint where that itch or wonder first came from. At some point, somewhere, they saw a part of the world different than the little bubble they called "home." Perhaps it is less about being bitten by a bug and more about that moment your bubble was popped. The moment you learned there was more to the world than you thought. A Midwesterner gawks at towering mountains or palm trees that a West-Coaster glazes over. A European reads a book on their train commute to work while an American is glued to the window, taking in the ancient history and architecture around them. It's all a matter of perspective, and your perspective won't change unless you do something about it. A traveler is always trying to gain a new perspective. They are always trying to capture that feeling, that high, of what began it all: wonder. The origin is not a time or place, but a feeling. My name is Megan, and I'm chasing that feeling. From coast to coast and around the world. Do you want to chase it too? If you found your way here, then you probably do. until next time, |
